Trinity College Dublin – Chapel Window

I’ve covered a few weddings in Trinity College this year – normally I have one or two – but had four this year. I noticed that one of the stained-glass windows looks suspiciously like a depiction of Cupid – complete with hearts. Maybe this is just my imagination run wild (I haven’t been able to find out anything else about the window) – but I like to think it’s very appropriate for the weddings held there. It’s often used as a little scene-setting detail image in albums as well.

New Blog

I just started a new blog (not much on there yet) on frankcphoto.ie. The theory is that I’ll post Wedding & Portrait photos here and everything else there. I’m sure there will be some overlap – but I’ll just see how it goes – while trying to post more often anyway. I will also merge in my (now dormant) blog GraphicDublin and maybe even the TrimTown website. Consolidation and simpler update being the name of the game.

London Street Art

Well, my catch-up is taking a bit longer to do than I had planned. I’ve had a very busy few months, and hope to start putting some more wedding and other photos online soon. In the meantime, I had a short break in London recently and took a shot of the street-art below with my trusty cameraphone. You may or may not consider it to be wedding-related ! Incidentally, the Tube carriages in the photo are now being used as offices.

Winter Wonderland

OK – I know that “snow is general all over Ireland” but as I’ve been quiet here for a bit, I just had to post some of the photos I took over the past day or so. All these were taken close to where I live in Dun Laoghaire. In fact, I’ve already used some of them for my custom Christmas Cards, which I get printed every year.

I don’t have any weddings to photograph until next week – so I wonder will they also be literally “white weddings”. I’ll have to be careful to make sure that all those white dresses don’t get lost with a snowy background ! In the meantime, I can do my indoor work – and enjoy looking out at the snow.

Child of Prague Statue – Rain, Rain go away !

It’s still quite common that when I reach a bride’s house to photograph the preparations and ‘getting ready’, the first thing I notice is a Child of Prague statue outside. This is a very old custom, and just in case you didn’t already know, the purpose is to prevent rain on the Wedding Day.

This was certainly something my mother did, and believed in. However, she had some additional requirements – which are often forgotten or ignored these days. According to her, the head had to have been broken off or damaged “accidentally” and then stuck back on with glue. These accidents invariably happened quite early in the life of a new statue ! Some people also believe you should put it under a hedge or even bury it. These days the custom is probably preserved more by the mother of the bride, but it does still live on.

So – does it work ? Who am I to say…..

Dun Laoghaire FOWC – Photos

As mentioned in my previous post, the Dun Laoghaire festival of World Cultures took place here over last weekend. It’s now reached the 10th Anniversary, and as always was a brilliant event. I’m posting some photos taken yesterday – and this time I’m concentrating on some of the performers who took part. I’ll have more photos on my website later, and will add a link here.

Dun Laoghaire FOWC 2010

I’ve been going to this ever since it started and have been an occasional volunteer and regular photographer there. It’s always a great festival, and I’m looking forward to going along again this year.

I can’t really have a post without a photo, so here’s some pictures of Dun Laoghaire Harbour taken last night. It was a beautiful clear night, with some lovely light in the sky as the sun set. I didn’t have my tripod with me, so all these are taken handheld (or resting the camera against one something along the pier) :

Budapest Visit

I was in Budapest recently (around Easter) and took the opportunity to take a lot of photographs of this beautiful city. I am showing a few more than normal in this post, and I will add a link later to where even more of them can be viewed if you’re interested.
